Developers Envision Possibilities for Gowanus Waterfront Redevelopment
Gowanus Forward, a consortium of multiple developers, recently revealed new renderings by urban design and landscape architectural team SCAPE intended to illustrate the proposed potential for the Gowanus Canal waterfront and the surrounding streetscape. Rezoning approvals are pending for the mixed-use district that was certified by city agencies in early June as part of the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP); and if approved the rezoning is expected to facilitate the creation of approximately 8,500 new housing units; infrastructure upgrades to support the influx of new residents; and resiliency measures to mitigate potential damage caused by rising tides and seasonal storms.
