Macy’s Moves Forward with Proposal for Vertical Expansion of Herald Square Store

A vision was announced today by Macy’s, Inc. as part of the retailer’s renewed commitment to its flagship Herald Square store. The proposed project that would add an office building atop the existing structure, the project will also include $235 million of private investment in the surrounding area to transform Herald Square and Broadway Plaza; ease pedestrian access at Broadway and 34th Street; enhance entry to Herald Square subway station at Greeley Square; and add ADA-accessible elevators at 7th Avenue and 34th Street and at 35th Street and Broadway. The project is expected to generate $269 million in new tax revenues for New York City, support 16,290 annual jobs and spark $4.29 billion in annual economic output.
