NYS Comptroller Report: The Tourism Industry in New York City – Reigniting the Return
Key findings within the report released in April by the Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) reveal that New York City tourist volume in 2020 significantly declined by 67 percent year-over-year, ending the city’s 10-year period of record growth in tourism. It has been estimated by OSC that the tourism industry economic impact dropped by 75% during the same period; and the loss in tourism-related tax revenue accounted for about 59 percent of the city’s $2 billion decline in tax collections for FY 2021.
